We first stumbled upon this Dual Screen Notebook back in 2009 during the last CEATEC, and were pretty impressed by its dual 10.1” screen but always wondered how a notebook with an AMD Athlon NEO MV-40 Notebook clocked at 1.6GHz with only 1GB of RAM would perform… Now we are not going to spoil you all the fun of reading this quick review, but we have to admit right now that this little Dual Screen DZ Notebook is highly addictive!

First Impression
Once all the Kohjinsha stickers have been removed from your notebook, the DZ series has quite an elegant look to it and feels a lot better than what we are used to from Kohjinsha! Finally, it seems, the Korean-based company have invested both time and money in not only hiring a proper designer but also using better materials on a par with today’s industry standards. Sure Kohjinsha still has some room for improvement, but the overall feel is as good as your entry level ACER or ASUS counterpart.
The key response is “acceptable” but its trackpad is not, however, something we would be comfortable using for hours on end and, if you intended to use the DZ notebook as your primary device at home or at the office, we can only advise you to invest in a proposer Wireless Mouse and Keyboard combo.

Unlike most Notebooks the DZ is in fact a tablet PC minus the “touch” capability. When the screen is swiveled, hiding the keyboard, the device can be held in your hands and used in landscape mode much like a tablet PC. A kind of optical sensor is provided to the left of the screen and mouse buttons to the right. Whilst this may work OK for movies or documents, it is ineffective for anything else. If you are keen on such functionality, you would be better off buying a tablet notebook. Now let’s focus our attention on the DZ’s big selling point’ its Dual Screen.
Hidden below your primary monitor you will find a 2nd one, identical to the first, that slides out to offer you 2×10.1” monitors, both sporting a 1024×600 resolution giving you in total a 2048×600 screen real estate that you will are able to configure to your liking; a second monitor, a stretch monitor or a mirrored version of the first. This, ladies and gentlemen, is by far the best selling point on this notebook!

Everyday usage
If we were in no doubt that having a Dual Screen compact notebook was a winner, we were still rather skeptical about the potential performance of a computer powered by an AMD Athlon Neo MV Cpu @ 1.6Ghz.
Don’t get us wrong we have nothing against AMD CPUs, however, they do not have the best reputation in the market of portable devices when compared to Intel. This said and under normal day-to-day operation running Outlook, Word, IrfanView (Free & Basic Photo editor) and you favorite web browser, the DZ Series with only 1GB of RAM and Windows 7 surpassed even our expectations.

But has you may have already guessed, it is only when you are using the DZ with its 2 10.1” Monitor side by side that our computer really shines!
At Akihabara News we are used to working with dual screens and honestly we really struggle working on-the-go with only a single screen at our disposal. You cannot imagine how convenient it is to run two Word documents, Excel Spreadsheets, browser windows or anything else that tickles your fancy…on the move comfortably!
The DZ is really a life changer, not only for bloggers like us, but also for photographers or any people who have to manipulate a lot of documents and need to do so on a commute.
Perfect, well almost…unfortunately Kohjinsha decided to equip their device with glossy screens. Granted in perfect conditions these screens tend to provide more vivid colors but are a real pain when used outdoors or, like us here at Akihabara News HQ, under neon lighting. However, being a mobile device, and being highly portable you should be capable of finding a decent spot to use your DZ without too many problems.
